Dr. Seuss Day

Dr. Seuss day, or also know as "Read across America Day" is today. March 2nd was the birthday of Dr. Seuss, the beloved author of many of our favorite children's books.

Take an hour or two out of your busy schedule today and do something relaxing: read a book! How often do you just sit down and read? Curl up with the youngin's and read your favorite Dr. Seuss book together, then get lost in your own pages of adventure. My choice for today? I'm re-reading Edgar Rice Burroughs "Princess of Mars" in preparatory to the movie coming out next weekend.

Origami Frog

Today is a rare day indeed. Leap Year Day! I wonder what it would be like to have been born on this day? I would only be 10 years old instead of 41!..... Well, I don't know if I would want to be 10 again, but the thought is interesting.

National Chocolate Chip Day

Well, apparently chocolate chips are so important they get two days per year. In trying to figure out which day is really chocolate chip day, I just gave up and decided - why not celebrate on both days?! May 15th and August 4th seem to be the two days in question. Star Wars Day

May the fourth be with you...... Ya, I know, geeky - but so our family! We are proud to admit that we have several Star Wars geeks in our house: the biggest of them all being my son Jeff. You can see how big a geek in this picture taken almost 6 years ago, on his 16th birthday. And, don't be mistaken - even though he is almost 22 years old, he would still take a picture like this today. So, when I found out about National Star Wars Day, I just knew that warranted a party! Ice Cream For Breakfast! The Results

Aaron: "Your post today was totally great.... are we really having ice cream for breakfast tomorrow?

Me: Um..... yes?

Aaron: Hmm... not sure I can do ice cream for breakfast. Well, maybe just a little.

Me: How am I suppose to post the results on the blog if we don't at least try a little? I think this french toast looks like it's going to be really yummy.

We love wacky holidays! I have found that this is a simple way to get kids excited and have a great time. Doing something out of the ordinary, and sometimes just a little naughty... like eating ice cream for breakfast! Tomorrow, the fist Saturday of February, is "Ice Cream For Breakfast Day".
