If you have never tried fondu before, this is a very fun activity to do for your next family meal. Fondu pots can be found for as little as $20 - 30 a piece - even less if you keep your eyes open at thrift stores and garage sales. You can go with just one, but it is even more fun if you have a couple for different recipes: cheese and chocolate recipes are a must.
Here are a few recipes for you to try. Fresh veggies and cubes of bread are awesome in cheese and fresh fruit tastes great in chocolate. Play around with the combinations that you like the best.
Simple Cheese Fondu
Cheddar Cheese Soup w/ 1/4 cup water
Swiss Cheese Fondu
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 1/2 pound shredded Swiss cheese
- 1/2 pound shredded Gruyere cheese
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Simmer wine in fondue pot. Add Swiss cheese, Gruyere
cheese, 1/4 pound at a time. Stir after each addition of cheese until
melted. Stir in flour. When all the cheese has melted, stir in salt and
nutmeg.
Cider Cheese Fondu
- 3/4 cup apple cider or apple juice
- 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
Basic Cheese Fondu
- 2 cups milk
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 teaspoons ground dry mustard
- 1 clove garlic, peeled and crushed
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 6 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
Super Easy Chocolate Fondu
Chocolate fudge ice cream topping
Chocolate-Mocha Fondu
- 2 cups milk chocolate chips
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons cherry brandy
- 1 tablespoon strong brewed coffee
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Basic Chocolate Fondu
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 (14 ounce) can EAGLE BRAND® Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk)
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
