Mummy Dogs

These have been my kids' favorite Halloween food forever. As a matter of fact, when we had them the other day Jessi (from college) was sad we had them without her. They are so simple to make and a huge crowd pleaser. I'm sure I'll make them again for our Halloween party, since Jess will be home for that.











Ingredients

1/2 cup butter
1 Tb. honey
2 cups flour (I use whole wheat)
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 package hot dogs

Directions

Heat oven to 450 degrees. Cut butter and honey into flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt until completely mixed and resembling fine crumbs. Stir in buttermilk just until mixed (dough will be slightly sticky)

Dump dough out onto a floured counter. Knead lightly 10 - 15 times. Roll out into a rectangle that is about 1/2 inch thick. Cut dough into 1 inch strips. Take each strip and wrap it around your hot dog resembling a mummy, leaving opening for eyes.

Bake in preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until biscuits are completely cooked (this will depend on how thick you made your dough). Let cool slightly, then using a toothpick, dot mustard onto your mummy for eyes.

NOTE:  You are a vegetarian or don't like hot dogs? No matter. I have done this before with cheese sticks and it still turns out great.

  2. yum! Sausage sound good. I'm sure I'll be making these again for the annual party, so I will try a few with those too. Can never have to many mummy dogs ;o)
