Two Easy DIY Costumes

Guest Writer MJ Smout
(and yes, Aaron is the kid on the right ;o)

Kids don’t need you to spend a lot of time or money on Halloween costumes.  Just use your imagination and make a costume out of things you have around the house.
This little witch is wearing her own long dress and her mother’s wig.  The only cost was a couple dollars for the paper hat which could be made out of construction paper if you have it available.

As for the hunchback, he just has a foam rubber football secured under his coat.  This not only makes the hump, but it shortens the coat sleeves so his arms look longer.  Add a little of mom’s makeup and your all set.

If you don’t have a long dress the right size, perhaps an older sister’s dress will work or even a brother’s or father’s tee shirt could be used.  Just add a ribbon belt to dress it up a bit.  A bunched up pillow could be used in place of the football to form a hump.

Remember, this is just for one night and it doesn’t have to look perfect.  That’s the good thing about ‘pretend’ the kids will have fun anyway.  So put on your thinking cap, look around your house, and see what you can ‘scare’ up.
